US Regime Change?

Yesterday was the mid term elections over here and this morning saw what you might call "a change of regime" with the Democrats (the equivalent of new labour in my opinion) winning control of the House of Representatives (the equivalent of our Parliament) and the Senate (the equivalent of the Lords) too from the Republicans (the equivalent of the Tories).

The mid terms are often seen as a reflection of the popularity of the President. The electorate are reportedly unhappy about the state of the economy, government corruption as well as the increasingly unpopular war in Iraq with the majority of Americans now not in favour. Defense secretary Donald Rumsfeld has already been axed as a result.

Of course you'll all be pleased to hear that the Governor of California is still Arnold Schwarzenegger after he defeated Democrat Phil Angelides. Apparent Arnie said "that he was particularly looking forward to this sequel". I am imagining that the students close to submitting thesis or finishing degrees played a part in this as their certificates (or in the case of Ph.D.'s) are signed by the Governor and I mean wouldn't you want Arnies autograph in yours!
